Notary Public Training
Anyone applying to become a notary or renewing their notary commission in Montana is required to complete four hours of notary training. Our four-part webinar series is approved by the Montana Secretary of State’s office to meet those requirements. The details about eligibility and the process of becoming a Montana Notary Public can be found on the Montana Secretary of State’s website.
This training is offered free for employees of our MCU-affiliated credit unions.
Getting Ready for the Training
Each of the four webinars covers a lot of important material. You should download the Montana Notary Public Handbook before beginning them as it is referred to throughout the sessions.
The Templates for Notary Certificates will also give you printable examples of the separate types of certificates you will be trained on. You will have practice sheets to use throughout the sessions if you print them before you start. The webinars are designed so you can pause and practice writing out certificates or refer to other parts of the SOS website for a complete understanding of the subject.
The Webinars
Below are links to the four webinars in this series. Plan to watch them in order and spend up to one hour with each session.
- Webinar 1: General Information & Becoming a Notary Public

Once you have finished all four, fill out this request form and email it to Beth Satre (beth@mcun.coop). She will need it to issue and send you a Certificate of Completion for the training.
