PAC Programs

Montana credit union members, volunteers, and staff often engage in campaign-related activities that support the election or reelection of local, state, or federal candidates who support the goals of credit unions.

Credit unions’ strength in the political arena is based primarily on our grassroots efforts. While we are a movement of volunteers, we also remember the importance of a financial commitment to support our friends in office, and our supporters seeking office.

When it comes to setting policy and working directly with elected and appointed officials, Montana’s Credit Union works closely with the Government Relations Committee, which is made up of credit union leaders from around the state. When raising funds and engaging in the election cycle, we rely on the efforts and knowledge of the trustees who lead and administer our credit union political action committee: Montana CUAC.

CUAC

Montana Credit Union Advocacy Council (CUAC) is a credit union political action committee (PAC) registered with the State Commissioner of Political Practices. It is led by a board of trustees made up of credit union volunteer officials and professionals from across the state.

The credit union movement is for and about people. Montana CUAC, therefore, seeks primarily to encourage small contributions and campaign volunteerism from the greatest number of credit union people possible. Montana CUAC’s largest fundraiser is the annual CUAC Raffle.

CULAC

The Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) is the federal PAC for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). CULAC’s purpose is to contribute to and support federal candidates and committees that support the Credit Union Movement. In 2014, CULAC’s top fundraising program was through payroll deduction. It brought in 34% of receipts, followed by league PAC transfers (26%) and Events (11%). Payroll deduction is starting to gain speed in Montana.
