Notary Public Training
As of July 1, 2020, everyone either applying to become a new notary or renewing their expiring notary commission in Montana is required to complete four hours of notary training. This four-part training series has been approved by the Montana Secretary of State’s office to meet those requirements. The details about eligibility and the process of becoming a Montana Notary Public (there’s an exam!) can be found on the Secretary of State’s website.
Please Note: Montana credit union staff use this link to access this course (The training is part of your credit union’s membership dues).
Getting Ready for the Training
The training is broken up into four webinars, and each section covers a lot of important material. You will want to download the Montana Notary Public Handbook prior to beginning the webinars as it is referred to many times throughout the four trainings.
It is also recommended that you download the Templates for Notary Certificates prior to the training. The templates will give you printable examples of the separate types of certificates you will be trained on. If you print them prior to starting the webinars, you will have practice sheets to use throughout the webinars. The webinars are designed for you to take time to pause, and practice writing out certificates or refer to other parts of the SOS website for a complete understanding of the subject.
If you run into any issues or have any questions or concerns regarding anything with this training, email Beth Satre (beth@mcun.coop).
